Soya Chunks Kola Urundai

Soya chunks kola urundai is a vegetarian starter/snackThis recipe will consume little oil while deep frying. So, can eat it occasionally.

 

Ingredients:

1.   Soya chunks/ Meal maker(minced) – 2 cups

2.    Small Onion – 6 (small)

3.   Curry leaves – 6

4.   Coriander leaves- few

5.   Ginger –1/2 inch

6.   Garlic – 6- 7 cloves

7.   Fennel seeds –  3/4tsp

8.   Red chilli powder – 1/4 to 1/2 tsp

9.   Salt – to taste

10.  Fried gram dal flour /pottukadalai maavu – 2 tbsp

11.  Oil – for deep frying

To Make Soya Chunks Kola Urundai:

1.     Soak soya chunks in water for a minimum of 30 minutes.

2.     Then in a mixer jar add the soaked chunks by squeezing out all the water and semi-grind it (don’t make it as a paste). Keep it aside.

3.     In a mixer jar add

i)       Small Onion – 6 (small)

ii)     Curry leaves – 6

iii)    Coriander leaves- few

iv)    Ginger –1/2 inch

v)     Garlic – 6- 7 cloves

vi)    Fennel seeds – 3/4 tsp

Grind into a coarse paste and keep it aside.

3.     Now in a mixing bowl add

i)     The above 2 ground items

ii)     Red chilly powder based on your spicy level

iii)    Fried gram dal flour /pottukadalai maavu – 2 tbsp

iv)    Salt to taste.

And combine all the items well and form a mixture.

4.     Ensure that the mixture is not soggy.

5.     Mixture should be in a consistency to make a tight firm ball.

6.   Now take a small portion of the mixture and make a tight firm ball. Similarly, do with the rest of the mixture too.

7.   Now heat a kadai and add oil for deep frying.

8.   Once the oil is medium heated add the balls and fry until they turn golden brown.

Now easy starter/ snack Soya chunks kola urundai is ready. You can serve it as such

      Note:(Reason for ball to split)

1.     The temperature of the oil should be right as mentioned. If not your balls will split.

2.     Even at the right temperature if the ball splits, then add little rice flour to the mixture and combine well and continue following the steps.

3.     If the ball is not tight and firm, then also it may split.
